One of the biggest challenges homeowners face is to keep the floor clean all the time. Things become even more difficult if you have small kids or pets at home. The dream of keeping the floor spic and span continues to be a dream for many, but it does not have to be.
Here are a few tips to keep the floors clean all the time.
Keep the dirt outside
The first step in keeping the floor clean is to prevent dust from entering the house. Place a mat both inside and outside the entrance door so that people entering the house can wipe their feet. A mat should be placed outside of every entrance of the house. You can even keep a shoe rack just outside the door so that those entering the house can leave the shoes outside.
Leave open space
Dust and dirt usually accumulate on places that are cramped up. If you have piles of newspaper lying around or furniture that are cramped up, dust is likely to settle there. Try to make more open space in the house so that less dust and dirt accumulates, which will also make it easier for you to clean
Keep pets in designated areas
If you have pets at home, it is better to give them access to specific areas of the house. This helps in keeping other parts of the house clean.
Be quick to remove spots
Clean spots and stains as soon as they happen. This prevent stains from getting worse, thus making it easy to clean. If you find a stain or spill on the floor, you can wipe it with a paper towel and clean it with a normal floor cleaner. If the stain is on the carpet, blot the area dry with a paper towel and then clean the area with white vinegar.
Wipe out water
Water in the bathroom can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Keep the bathroom floor dry all the time. Use a bathroom rug to soak moisture or use a bathroom mop to keep the area clean and dry. Switching on the exhaust fan also helps in reducing moisture in the bathroom.
Clear food particles
Food particles, especially in kitchen, will not only make your floor dirty but also attract pests and insects. Keep the kitchen clean all the time by immediately removing food particles.
Sweep often
Make sweeping a part of your everyday chore. This prevents the accumulation of dust and keep the floor clean all the time. Make use of a specialized broom with short bristles so that it can get in between the grout and clean the floor.
Mopping regularly
Mopping regularly helps to prevent dust accumulation on the floor. Moping can be done with water and a floor cleaner. If you want to go the organic way (which we recommend), then a combination of baking soda, lemon juice and water will handle the job.
Vacuuming
If the floor has carpet or hardwood, then you will need to vacuum regularly to remove dust. Steam vacuum cleaners help in more effective cleaning and even disinfecting the carpet.
Keeping the floor clean all the time is not difficult. The trick to keeping the floors clean is consistency and proper cleaning depending on your floor type.
